Founded in November 1804, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. In October 1999, according to the decree of the President of Ukraine, Kharkiv State University gained the status of a national university and was named in honor of its founder, V.N. Karazin.In 2003, following the decree of the President of Ukraine, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University obtained the highest status of a self-governing (autonomous) state university.
The medical faculty was opened among first four faculties of university and was called as department of medical sciences, subsequently renamed into School of Medicine which has existed 115 years.
The School’s faculty includes 22 doctors of sciences, full professors, 68 candidates of sciences, associate professors and instructors. Over 1080 students including 700 from other countries study here. Training is provided at the facilities of the University Schools and Kharkiv research and medical institutions. The School focuses its research on the modern problems of theoretical and clinical medicine.
