Kiev National Medical University n.a. O.O. Bogomolets

In 1840, His Highness Emperor Mykola I, signed the Highest Rescript about opening the medical Course at St. Volodymyr University which is the beginning of National Medical University n.a. O.O.Bogomolets. Council of St. Volodymyr University approved the decision about opening the 1st medical Course in September 1841.

Kiev Institute of Health Care was renamed into Kiev State Medical Academy, which later became Kiev medical institute in 1921. In 1946 Kiev Medical Institute was given with the name of the President of Academy of Sciences of UkrSSR O.O. Bogomolets. In 1992 The institute was reorganized into Ukrainian O.O. Bogomolets state medical university which in the year 1995 By the Decree from the President of Ukraine the university received the status of O.O. Bogomolets National medical university.


The University is now One of European’s most highly ranked medical universities which offers variety of undergraduate and Post graduate medical courses. The university has Medical technologies of highest standards, purpose-designed, modern, interdisciplinary campus facilities. Kiev National Medical University n.a. O.O. Bogomolets is the only Ukrainian Medical University, cooperating with numerous European universities.

Over 13,000 students, doctors-interns, masters, residents, post-graduates and persons, working for doctor’s degree, among which about 1,200 foreign citizens. The University has agreements with 43 international and foreign organizations and institutions, co-founder of Interuniversity center of science and cooperation in countries in South and South-Eastern Europe, East European chain of universities, participant in 27 educational and 49 scientific international projects.

Kharkiv National Medical University, Ukraine

Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) Ukraine is one of the oldest higher educational establishments of Ukraine. It was founded in 1805 as the Medical Faculty of the Kharkiv University. Kharkiv National Medical University/KNMU was formerly called Kharkov Medical Institute, Kharkov National Medical University and Kharkov State Medical University.


The Degree (MBBS, BDS, MD, MDS, MS, NURSING) of the Kharkov National Medical University (KNMU) is prestigious and it is recognized in many countries of the world. Clinical and theoretical training of the students is performed at 56 departments of the University. Kharkiv National Medical University use modern medical diagnostic and therapeutically equipment, and is technologically updated in their functioning of the daily affairs.

The University is currently training about 8,000 students. Since 1951 the University has been training specialists from foreign countries and at present 2700 foreign students study at KNMU at the Medical and Dentistry Faculties, and also at the postgraduate course.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine

Founded in November 1804, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. In October 1999, according to the decree of the President of Ukraine, Kharkiv State University gained the status of a national university and was named in honor of its founder, V.N. Karazin.


In 2003, following the decree of the President of Ukraine, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University obtained the highest status of a self-governing (autonomous) state university.

The medical faculty was opened among first four faculties of university and was called as department of medical sciences, subsequently renamed into School of Medicine which has existed 115 years.

The School’s faculty includes 22 doctors of sciences, full professors, 68 candidates of sciences, associate professors and instructors. Over 1080 students including 700 from other countries study here. Training is provided at the facilities of the University Schools and Kharkiv research and medical institutions. The School focuses its research on the modern problems of theoretical and clinical medicine.

Kyiv Medical University of UAFM, Ukraine

Founded in 1992 and located in the capital and most modernized city of Ukraine, Kyiv Medical University (KMU) is the first private university among the former Soviet Union countries. The university has the highest level of accreditation by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education.


The university has so far trained over 10,000 health personnel mainly general practitioners, dentists and pharmacists.

As at August 2014, close to about 1000 foreign students study at KMU from different parts of the world. Kyiv Medical University (KMU) has joint research and partnership relations with many Scientific Institutions of former USSR and all over the world.

The Kyiv medical university of UAFM is recognized as a higher medical education institute by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, The IMED (The International Medical Education Directory) and The Avicenna Database thus making the qualification offered by the university recognized all over the world.

Lviv National Medical University, Ukraine

Formerly known as the Lvov State Medical Institute, is one of the oldest and biggest medical universities in Ukraine. It is one of the leading medical universities of the IV level of accreditation. LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened on November 16, 1784.

Lviv University is ranked 7246 in the world by Webometric's world University ranking and ranked at 4681 in the world out of 11,000 universities by 4icu world university ranking


Lviv National Medical University is a Member of International and European Associations of Universities, and also is the member of almost 70 other international organizations, academies & federations. Lviv National Medical University is included into Directory of World Health Organization (WHO) and into Directory of Universities of Central European countries.

In terms of University activities LNMU has the leading positions in ratings of higher educational institutions and higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine (Scopus 2010 – the 2nd place among medical universities and academies of Ukraine).

Since 1961 LNMU has trained over 2.5 thousand foreign students as doctors and pharmacists and is working successfully as doctors and pharmacists in many countries of the world. Education is provided in Ukrainian, Russian and since 1997 the teaching of foreign students in English was launched and is rapidly developing. LNMU provides admission for foreign citizens to the undergraduate education at Faculty of General Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy, also provides admission for Preparatory Course and Postgraduate Training. The annual university amount of students is more than 19100 persons, which includes 5426 undergraduate students (including more than 1000 foreign students).

Odessa State Medical University, Ukraine

The institution was started in 1900 as the Medical Faculty of the Novorossiyskiy State University in Odessa. The medical faculty soon became one of the most prestigious medical faculties in the Russian Empire. In 1922 it was transformed into an independent and autonomous Odessa State Medical Institute. It was later to become Odessa State Medical University in an independent Ukrainian Republic.

The University consists of 58 faculties and has a student population of over 6,000 including foreign students from very different and diverse countries. There are 43 clinical departments in the university, located at 63 medical and prophylactic institutions in Odessa and Odessa region.


Since 1946 the faculty received training over 7,000 foreign citizens from 58 countries worldwide. Many graduates have become leading specialists, heads of medical institutions, regional services, heads of educational institutions. At present the university has more than 1000 foreign students and they have the opportunity to use high-quality and modern information services, student library, study books that are written by professors of the University and published in ONMedU.

Vinnitsia National Medical University, Ukraine

VNMU began as Vinnitsa Pharmaceutical Institute (1921-1936), and later became Vinnitsa branch of All-Ukrainian Institute of Extra-Mural Medical Education (1930), and reorganized in 1932 as Evening Industrial Medical Institute with two faculties – medical-preventive and pediatric and in 1934 as Vinnitsa Medical Institute (1934).

In 1994 the faculty of Dentistry was organized, and Vinnitsa Medical Institute was accredited as a University on Level IV, the highest level of accreditation by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine 408, dated 15.06.94. The Institute was re-named to Vinnitsa State Pirogov Memorial Medical University. By 2000, the faculty of Pharmacy was organized.


By 2002, taking into account nation-wide and international recognition of results of its activity VSMU was awarded National University status by Decree of the President of Ukraine L.D. Kuchma (June 19, 2002, #560/2002), supporting specialities ”General Medicine“, "Pediatrics", "Dentistry", "Pharmacy", “Clinical Pharmacy”, “Medical Psychology.”

Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University, Ukraine

Established in 1945, Ivano-Frankivsk national Medical University, is an institute of higher medical education in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine.


The university is situated in Ivano city in northwest of Ukraine and is a leading higher education establishment of the region of a classical type with a higher accreditation level. The University provides continuity of higher medical education: Junior Specialist – a Bachelor – a Medical Specialist – a Master – a post graduate.

University consists of 12 hospitals and clinics. The university is one of the few Medical Universities in Ukraine to be conferred the Honor of being designated as a “National Medical University” by the Government of Ukraine.

More than 40 practical classes and laboratories are functioning in the university, where our students master their knowledge in practice.


At present there are more than 9000 students from all over the world including USA, Western Europe, Australia, Africa, India and other parts of Asia study here. University offers a wide infrastructure containing 48 departments.

Sumy State University Medical School, Ukraine

Sumy State University (SSU) is situated in Sumy city in North-East of Ukraine and is a leading higher education establishment of the region of a classical type with a higher accreditation level. The University history started in 1948.

Sumy State University (SSU) conducts training on 60 specialties of 40 areas and 23 fields of knowledge (computer science; informatics; applied mathematics; mechanics; automatics and controlling; electronics; nanotechnology; electrical engineering; energetics; mechanical engineering; materials science; chemical engineering; ecology; quality, standardization, certification; economics and business; management; medicine; law; journalism; translation etc.

Uzhhorod State University, Ukraine

Uzhhorod State University was founded on July 19, 1945 in accordance with joint resolution of Council of People's Commissars of Ukrainian SSR and Central Committee of Communist Party of Ukrainian SSR. On October 19, 2000, Uzhhorod State University was renamed Uzhhorod National University.


Uzhhorod National University belongs to classic universities of Ukraine, holding the highest 4th level of accreditation. It is one of the largest and best universities of the Carpathian region, situated in a wonderful student city Uzhhorod on the slopes of the Carpathian Mountains in Western Ukraine. The university has acquired a well-deserved reputation in a scientific world, becoming the landmark and the alma-mater for generations of students who are working successfully both in Ukraine and other countries of the world. Uzhhorod University has formed powerful scientific schools of the world acclaim. It collaborates with many top universities abroad.

According to the international scientometric data, Uzhhorod National University has ranked stably among the 10 leading scientific centres of Ukraine. In the course of 69 years, it has worked out its own school of teaching (instruction), scientific and educational traditions.

The university today consists of three educational institutes (Institute of Foreign Languages, Institute of Economics and International Relations, Institute of Post- and Pre-degree Education), and 14 faculties: history, philology, law, social sciences, physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, medicine, stomatology, engineering, geography, physical education and sport, and Hungarian studies.

Uzhhorod National University has actually improved its positions in many rankings this year. It ranks 39th among 200 best universities of Ukraine (evaluation conducted by the Centre for International Projects "Yevroosvita"), entered the top 30 universities of Ukraine (according to the weekly "Focus"), became the 18th in the ranking of transparency of national universities (Analytical Center CEDOS) and jumped 11 positions up in the consolidated ranking of domestic universities. Moreover, UzhNU gained the status of NVIDIA CUDA C/C++ Training Center.
