Preparatory course

Preparatory programs a foundation course recommended for students who want to get into international Universities. It is done before joining the University course in Russian medium for a duration of 4-10 months. ECFMG

To be certified by ECFMG, international medical graduates need to pass a medical science examination. You need to clear United States Medical Licensing Examination™ (USMLE) to meet the medical science examination requirement for ECFMG certification. To get the certificate you have to pass both the steps in whatever order you wish to.

Step 1

It checks your understanding of basic medicine and important concepts of sciences basic with special emphasis on principles and mechanisms underlying health, disease, and modes of therapy.

Step 2

It is the clinical science component of the medical science examination where you have to apply medical knowledge and understanding of clinical science.

It will be a Computer-based based administration of both the exams that can be applied any time, provided you meet the eligibility requirements for these exams.

Medical School Students

To be eligible for Step 1 and Step 2, you must be officially enrolled in a medical school that is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). The "Graduation Years" in IMED must be listed as "Current" at the time you apply and at the time you take the exam. After graduation, you need to send the medical diploma photocopies and one full-face photograph to ECFMG

To be eligible for Step 1, you must also have completed at least two years of medical school. In addition, to be eligible for Step 2, you must be within twelve months of completion. ECFMG will release your score report for the USMLE Step 1 and/or Step 2 only after re-verification.

The United States Medical Licensing Examination

The United States Medical Licensing Examination is a three-step exam for medical licensure in the United States. You can take Step 1 and Step 2 in either order, after meeting the respective eligibility requirements. For Step 3, you have passed both Step 1 and Step 2.

USMLE Licensing Exams

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) consists of three steps with four exams designed.

Step 1 The Step 1 exam is a multiple-choice exam designed to test basic, integral science concepts to clinical scenarios. Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS can be taken in any order. With the exam, content revolves around Anatomy, Behavioral Science, Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Microbiology/Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Physiology

Step 2CK - The Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) is a multiple-choice exam designed to check medical knowledge and understanding of clinical science. Topics generally cover is Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Surgery, Neurology, Psychiatry, Public Health

Step 2CS -The Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) is a hands-on exam to check clinical and communication skills by performing a physical examination, and write a patient note.

Step 3 (multiple-choice exam)This two-day exam to check medical knowledge and the understanding of biomedical and clinical science.

Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB)

You will need to pass the PLAB test before you can apply for registration in the UK which takes place in two parts:

Part 1

A computer-marked written examination consisting of extended matching questions and single best answer questions. Mostly 30% of the paper is composed of SBA questions.

Part 2

It is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Part 2 must be passed within three years of passing Part 1.

NOTE: You need 12 months postgraduate clinical experience from any teaching or hospital. You may take the test without experience but if you do pass the test without this experience, you will have to seek employment in a Foundation Year 1 training post.

MCI Screening Test

Any Indian student having a medical qualification from outside India in order to work in India has to get a provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council. Along with that, they need to qualify a screening test. It consists of one paper with 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQ). After passing the applicants may apply to the Medical Council of India, New Delhi or to any State Medical Council for provisional registration / permanent registration.
